Hypothesis

This project does not have a general hypothesis-solution, I was approached to assist on this project to gather insight on designs and layouts for a new concept game.

Solution

The design for this project needs to convey the image the client is trying to convey while being easy to understand. The focus for this project will aim to make a clear Style Guide, Branding, Layout, and build Content Writing and Strategy.

Beginnings

The client has been working out a new concept game in pen and paper. The basic premise has already been solidified and is looking to begin making the game more refined in order to be able to sale the game through crowd funding.

  • The first step for me has been breaking down his current game to it’s basic components and finding where items can best be separated.

  • following separation, the games components where started to be uploaded to an excel spreadsheet.

  • Initial prototyping was already completed and focus shifted to observing usability testing and gathering information to provide several possible layouts.

  • All assets at this time were broken down into the Minimum Viable Products to focus on legibility and user understanding.

Usability Testing

The product had several different variables which needed to be kept in mind at all times; Board, Cards, Dice, and Character Tokens. Along with the basic components, Cards had several different styles which needed there own design layouts; Action, Role, Character, and Locations Cards.

  • At the beginning the only thing differentiating some of the cards were boarder colors. After running through some usability test, giving the colors differentiating patterns helped with user understanding.

Contextual Inquiry & A/B Testing

This will be needed at a future date, but at this time has yet to be completed

Style Guide & Branding

This will be built as discussion with the client continues.

  • At this time it is still needed to decide Colors, Fonts, Iconography, and Brand Image. Layout is currently being tested.
